Welcome to the official website of Barnegat Fire Company No. 1, Ocean County Station 11. Barnegat Fire Company was founded in 1909 and has been providing fire protection for Barnegat Township ever since.

As indicated we are a 100% volunteer department. Providing fire suppression and emergency services strictly out of the will to serve. Our membership consists of men and women from various backgrounds and walks of life. We are business owners, law enforcement officers, accountants, sales executives, truck drivers, students, etc. But most importantly, we are your friends and neighbors and we take great pride in serving our community. Each and every Barnegat firefighter is certified by the State of New Jersey, Division of Fire Safety as Firefighter Level 1. To achieve this each firefighter must attend and graduate from an accredited Fire Academy within the state of New Jersey.  This is no easy task. The Firefighter Level 1 course curriculum consists of approximately 180 hours of classroom and hands-on fire ground instruction over the course of six months. And this is just the beginning. Our training does not stop after graduation, once Firefighter 1 is completed our members become certified in Emergency Medicine, CPR, Vehicle Extraction and Water Rescue Operations. We constantly drill and train to ensure we provide the best fire protection possible to the residents of Barnegat Township. Our firefighters routinely take advantage of training programs offered by Local, County, State, and Federal agencies throughout New Jersey and the United States. We take great pride in being “Volunteer in name, Professional in action”.

Our department operates out of three stations within the township borders. The Main Station is located on Birdsall Street in the original  section of town known as (Downtown), and houses two Engines, one Mini Pumper, one Rescue/Engine, one Wild-land Urban Interface/Brush Truck, one Fire Police vehicle, and one Water Rescue Boat.  Substation 11-1 is located at 499 Barnegat Boulevard at the corner of West Bay Avenue and houses one Engine, one 105' Ladder Truck, one Brush Truck, and a Fire Police Vehicle.

Substation 11-2 is located at 99 Route 72 and houses an Engine, a Tanker/Rescue vehicle, an Extrication vehicle, a Mini Pumper and also houses an Ambulance used by the First Aid Squad.

Our coverage area consists of 41 square miles of residential, commercial, agricultural, and bay front property. On average, we respond to close to 500 calls a year within Barnegat Township, but we also routinely respond to “mutual aid” calls to neighboring fire companies throughout Southern Ocean County.

We hope you enjoy our website. We encourage you to stop by either of our stations if you would like to learn more about the department, inquire about joining, or just meet some of the Firefighters.
